About the Workshop

The truly magical qualities of watercolour can best be demonstrated in portraying atmospheric effects, using the wet-in-wet technique. We will paint a variety of subjects, exploring the beautiful Daku Resort and the surrounding areas of the Island in Fiji.

Completing a full painting each day from start to finish; each painting will be chosen to demonstrate a certain technique and key learning points. There will be lots of useful discussions as well as tips on how to avoid potential pitfalls.
Chan is well known for his generosity in sharing his insights and experiences in watercolour. His innovative approaches to teaching include models, slides, computer animations to explain the theory, then applying the theory in plein-air painting. Each student will receive personal attention and encouragement.
If you enjoy the challenge of producing loose and bold watercolours, then this is for you.

Students will take away from the workshop the following:

Join us for a week where Chan will help you create fresh, bold and lively paintings by injecting and capturing the mood of the glorious Tasmanian wilderness. You will be staying in your very own non-sharing room deep in the hills of remote North East Tasmania where a tiny farming community with a 100 year old hotel lies that is now Artable’s Australian retreat base. Amongst the rolling green hills sits a single streetscape untouched by commerce or tourism. Beyond the hills, lies an epic landscape in every direction. The rich orange and turquoise seas of the Bay of Fires, stunningly clear rivers in deep valleys and access to remote painting locations unseen by most visitors. This part of Tasmania will speak to every artist on every level.
